The Adventures of a 35yo (Alcohol) Virgin

A little about this project.

A little about the project.

For 35 years I never drank alcohol. And by “never drank alcohol” I mean, never tasted, sipped, tried or—as my friends all seem to insist—enjoyed. Why you might ask? Eh, it’s not as much of a complicated answer, but a boring answer. I just never had and then never did.

But, in my 35th year, in celebration of life, love and tasting a new side of life, I’m going to change this.

Starting on 1.1.2012, I’m going to try up to 3 new drinks a week maximum, and then write about them for your enjoyment. I’ll try a new alcoholic drink by my own choosing, from a suggestion by you, something inspired or seasonal, or maybe from the whim of a solid bartender.

I’m choosing to only have 1 of each drink and then moving on. I’m limiting myself to 3 drinks a week tops and then moving on. I plan on doing this for a year… and then probably moving on.

You know it sounds interesting. It’ll be like if a baby could blog about the first time they tasted every bit of food, except I’ll probably use bigger words and swear more frequently. At least, let’s hope.

A little about me.

In my circle of friend and family, I’m known for lots of things: my humor and wit,a lack of modesty, a deep love for food, a passion for hard work, a strong belief in social ethics, my great hair and not having ever tasted or drank beer, wine or alcohol. I’m from Ohio but now live in Washington, DC, am a non-profit professional by trade, a part-time writer, and married to a great man with two dependent cats.

My turn-ons are great meals, solid obscure comedy, reality TV cooking shows, pug puppies, professional (and non-professional) massages and tonic water with lime.

My turn-offs are boring conversations, white children, musicals, candle stores and smoking.

This drink-induced writing adventure is just the challenge I need in 2012. And… you, my friends, family and fans get to enjoy every moment shared. And for that, I’m kinda sorry. So get ready.
